Buddhism outer jacket is called Kesa. Note it is usually patch of square napkin size towels in brown color. Kesa is also called Fun-zou-e 糞掃衣 which means a cloth to wipe your butt. In old days, old cloth became futon, then towel, then a cloth to be used in toilet. Monks used to collect, clean and patch them to make Kesa. That is why it is the shape and color. word.
