Eichler lecture by Dave Weinstein

  • Initial architect were Robert Anshen of Anshen & Allen
  • After Anshen and Eichler parted, houses were designed by other architects including the San Francisco firm Claude Oakland & Associates and the Los Angeles firms of Jones & Emmons, A. Quincy Jones, and Raphael Soriano.
  • Sales, builder, material purchasing were all full time employees.
  • Last area was Los Arboles, San Jose in early 70's.
  • Although Eichler Homes Inc bankrupted in '64~'65, he kept on building houses under new org.
  • There was no aluminum slider before 1953 so basically Eichler popularized them.
  • Eichler did custom houses for those who had land already
  • There is a street called Eichler in Sacrament but there is no Eichler left
  • He built about 11,000 Eichler homes
  • There are NY and LA Eichlers
  • LA Orange county Eichlers are preserved by law but NoCal are advised only
  • Many Philippine mahogany were actually from Japan
  • San Mateo highland Eichlers sits on Andreas fault line (maybe hence many radiant heat there is no longer functional, me)
