NIKE SPACE HIPPIE SNEAKERS
In situ resource utilization is a space term covering the use of materials found on foreign planets and moons to replace materials that would otherwise be brought from Earth. Built using scrap material from factory floors, Nike's new line of Space Hippie Sneakers draws inspiration from this idea, as Earth isn't getting a resupply mission, either. The uppers are created from "Space Waste Yarn", a 100% recycled material made up of plastic water bottles, yarn scraps, and t-shirts. Cushioning is provided by reprocessed ZoomX foam scraps, while the outsole incorporates 15% Nike Grind rubber to reduce waste while creating a unique texture and look for each shoe. The resulting shoes, dubbed Space Hippie 01, 02, 03, and 04, have the lowest carbon footprint scores of any Nike shoes, ever, while exuding a futuristic look that fits the name perfectly. Available this spring.
